Abdominoplasty

Tummy Tuck.

Who can have an abdominoplasty?

Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is performed on people who experience excessive weight gain and loss periods, giving births, structural separation of the abdominal muscles, deformation of the abdominal muscles and skin due to aging, deformation due to distortion and excessive fat accumulation, as well as relaxation of the structures that form the abdominal wall , Stretch marks in the skin and sagging of the tissue

Is it sufficient to only allow fat to be removed (liposuction) if the stomach hangs down and is deformed?

In patients with sagging abdominal skin and deformation or separation of the muscles, simply removing the fat tissue under the skin by liposuction is not a solution. In fact, the skin of the abdomen takes on the appearance of a pouch, which is why the hanging down can be seen more clearly as the fatty tissue that fills the subcutaneous tissue is emptied.

What is a tummy tuck?

Tummy tuck; It is the operation in which the fatty tissue in the abdominal area is tightened by anatomically correcting the abdominal wall muscles by removing the sagging excess skin.

What does the success of a tummy tuck depend on?

To achieve the desired result in a tummy tuck surgery (abdominoplasty); Due to the elasticity of the abdominal skin, the amount of sagging skin should be sufficient. Certain criteria are also important, such as abdominal fat accumulation, whether there are stretch marks and the degree of separation in the abdominal muscles.

What is a mini tummy tuck?

Sometimes there is only excess skin in people, deformation and sagging of the skin only in the lower area of the abdomen. In such cases, there is usually no stretching and separation of the abdominal muscles. In these patients the abdominoplasty scar is shorter than the full abdominoplasty scar and is performed without changing the position of the navel; therefore it is called mini tummy tuck.

Which anesthesia is used to perform the tummy tuck?

A complete abdominoplasty can be performed under general anesthesia or spinal-epidural anesthesia (numbness below the waist). The mini abdominoplasty can also be performed under general anesthesia and spinal-epidural anesthesia, depending on the patient’s preference. With a really slight sagging of the skin, sedation can be done under local anesthesia.

What is the healing phase after the abdominoplasty?

The length of hospital stay is usually one night after a tummy tuck. You can then be discharged home, the drainage in the abdomen will be removed in about 4 or 5 days. You can take a shower after the drainage has been removed. For the first week, we don’t want the patient to stand upright due to the anterior tension in the abdomen. If you lean forward slightly to keep the abdomen loose, moderate pain will also be reduced. After the tummy tuck, you should wear a special corset between 30 and 45 days that only covers the abdomen.

How is a Brazilian-style tummy tuck performed?

With the classic tummy tuck surgery, no liposuction is used on the fat accumulation in the abdominal wall, in particular the fat above the navel cannot be removed with the classic tummy tuck surgery. This new type of abdominoplasty surgery, first developed by Dr. Saldanha is used, intensive liposuction is first applied to the abdominal region, while in the classic tummy tuck the entire abdominal skin of the abdomen is stretched by the separation from the underlying tissues. With this technique, the connection between the abdominal wall skin and the lower muscles is relaxed by liposuction. Separated from the muscles in the midline, it can be thinned and stretched without affecting blood flow. The patient’s waist is also relieved, since the tissue is collected by pulling from the sides and then sewn. Since the skin is not completely separated from the lower tissue, healing also takes place faster.

Is the abdominoplasty an operation that leaves scars?

The tummy tuck usually leaves a scar on the underside of the abdomen, at the level where there is a caesarean scar. This scar runs at the level of the caesarean section, but is longer. Where and how long the scar extends, determines from where to where the skin hangs.
