Hemangioma.

What is Hemangioma?

Hemangiomas and lymphangiomas, the most common benign skin tumors in newborns, can appear at birth or later in the first few months of life. Some of the hemangiomas can go back to puberty and disappear completely. In contrast to regression, hemangiomas that continue to grow, bleed frequently, or are located in important areas (such as eyelids, margins) may need to be removed surgically.

Large vascular tumors can be life-threatening or, at the same time, impair appearance. For example, like multiple hemangiomas involving the skin, liver and intestines of the newborn. If the lesion is very large and life-threatening, specialists from other departments such as a hematologist and an aesthetic plastic surgeon should be consulted. Laser therapy is the most exclusive treatment in the treatment of vascular lesions, including port wine stains and non-regressive strawberry hemangiomas. A careful assessment is required before laser therapy. However, surgical treatment may be superior to cavernous or mixed type mass-forming hemangiomas.

There is no standard treatment for every hemangioma. The method to be chosen varies depending on the size, type and location of the hemangioma. Although it is a benign disease, it is difficult, tedious and long to treat. The most effective and short-term method is, of course, surgical removal.

However, very few hemangiomas are suitable for surgical removal. The basic condition is not to damage other important anatomical structures in the region where the hemangioma is located. If we cannot take advantage of this opportunity, other methods will be used individually or in combination and in sessions. In addition to surgical removal, laser therapy has been the most effective method in recent years.

Although it is a benign disease, ulcers, necrosis, and trauma can cause excessive bleeding.
