What is botulinum toxin?
It is produced by the bacteria called Clostridium Botulinum in an oxygen-free environment. It temporarily blocks muscle stimulation by blocking nerve conduction. However, this effect only lasts for a certain period of time. It has to be repeated to have a lasting effect.
How is botulinum toxin used?
Botulinum toxin application; it’s easy to use and painless. Emla cream or ice is applied to the area to be treated to achieve the local anesthetic effect. Depending on the number of regions to be used, the intervention is completed within 5 to 10 minutes. It is carried out under practical conditions.
How long does the effect of botulinum toxin last?
Botulinum toxin temporarily blocks the nerves in the area where it is used. Therefore, the effect is completely temporary and lasts an average of 6 months. However, the effect of the person’s facial muscles can vary between 4 and 8 months. Again, it may be necessary to use different amounts of botulinum toxin serum for different people in order to achieve the same effect according to the strength of the facial muscles. Although the average duration of Botulinum toxin is 6 months, the duration of action can be extended to 8 to 10 months after 4 or 5 consecutive applications due to the cumulative effect.
Is botulinum toxin harmful?
The effect of botulinum toxin is to temporarily stop the work of the facial expression muscles. The area of effect comprises a circle with a diameter of approx. One cm around the area of application, further outside it is not effective. Since the botulinum toxin effect is only temporary, there is no damage.
