Why is chin correction done?

The chin tip is an addition to the face profile. A large or small chin tip creates a profile structure that disrupts the aesthetic appearance.
At what age should a chin correction be carried out?
Like all facial bones, the chin bone completes its development around the age of 18. Therefore, chin aesthetic operations should be performed after the age of 18.
How is the small chin tip treated?
It is a common deformity that the tip of the chin is smaller than normal. If there is also an arched and large nose, the deformity becomes more serious and the face of the person can look like a bird’s face. In such a case, since the support of the subcutaneous tissue decreases, the sagging of the soft tissue under the chin tip becomes more quickly visible and a “double chin” can also be seen in the person. Enlarge the small chin; For this, the bone of the chin tip is cut forward and various implants (silicone, medpor, titanium) are placed on the chin tip. Enlarging the chin tip can also solve the person’s double chin problem.
Is Orthodontic Treatment Required Before Chin Correction?
If the person wishing to have their chin corrected does not have an occlusion problem, i.e. if there is no problem in the relationship between the upper and lower teeth, orthodontic treatment (braces treatment) before the chin correction is not necessary.
How is a large and long chin tip treated?
If the tip of the chin is larger than normal, the face appears rough and long because the aesthetic face is disturbed, which can be reduced according to the aesthetic principles during an operation. This intervention; This can be done by removing excess bone or pushing the tip of the chin back (if the biting is normal). The tip of the jaw moved backwards must be fixed in its new position using a plate or screw.
How is chin aesthetic surgery performed?
Chin correction surgery is commonly referred to as genioplasty surgery. There are no scars on the face because the incision is made orally. Since the surgical scars are self-dissolving sutures, suturing will not be necessary. The surgery for chin correction (genioplasty) is performed under general anesthesia and takes about an hour under normal conditions. The patient is discharged after an overnight stay in the hospital. The pain is usually mild and is well tolerated through the use of pain relievers. The swelling on the mouth and chin heals in an average of one week. It is enough to eat liquid foods for about 6-7 days until the incisions in the mouth have healed. In people with chin corrections (genioplasty), it is not necessary to temporarily connect the upper and lower teeth after the operation.
